What Is A Habit?

When a set of behavior is repeated regularly over some time, to the extent that it tends to become automatic, that is, no thought and energy is needed to complete that task. For example: When you brush your teeth in the morning.

You have repeated that behavior so many times that now you don’t need to mentally prepare yourself or force yourself to brush your teeth anymore. It has become an innate or natural behavior to get up in the morning and brush your teeth.

According to, Britannica, habit, in psychology is any regularly repeated behavior that requires little or no thought and is learned rather than innate. A habit—which can be part of any activity, ranging from eating and sleeping to thinking and reacting—is developed through reinforcement and repetition.
Reinforcement encourages the repetition of a behavior, or response, each time the stimulus that provoked the behavior recurs. The behavior becomes more automatic with each repetition.

How Much Time Does It Take It Create Good Habits?

You have probably heard of the 21 days challenge when it comes to building good habits. But how many of such habits you have formed based on just 21 days?

To create habits that require little or no thought when you perform them, you at least need to practice the new set of behavior a minimum of 66 days.

In the book, 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma. He introduces us to the research data collected by the University College London. They state that it takes at least 66 days minimum to make a new habit yours. Here’s a diagram to understand how.

The above diagram divides the 66 days in 3 stages of 22 days each.

Stage 1: Initial period of destruction (Hardest but possible), the first phase of the diagram is the stage where you are trying to let go of your limited mindset, bad habits, and old and destructive pattern of your life.

“The Old You Must Die So The New You Can Be Born!”

Stage 2: Installation, when you finally get over with the hard part of the first phase, the second phase is where the real installations begin. Your mind is slowing wiring up according to your new level of life.

Stage 3: Integration, where you make your new routine your normal way of being.

After 66 days, when you reach ‘The Automation Point’. Your new habit becomes your innate or natural behavior. And little or no thought and energy is required to perform those tasks. Almost like you brushing your teeth in the morning.

11 Habits of Successful Female Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders

1. Practicing Self-Love

No matter who you are and from where you are. I believe there is a reason you are reading this article right now.

The reason could be anything from trying to change your life from this moment onwards to taking it to a whole new level. Begin this journey with nothing else, but with forgiveness and compassion.

Self-love is the first and most important habit of female entrepreneurs. So practice these traits mentioned below right away. Literally right now as you will be reading this.

A. Forgiveness

Forgive yourself for all the wrong decisions you took and the mistakes you made up until now. And for the future too. You certainly can’t go back in time to correct them. Then why keep regrets or guilt about them at the present moment.

Look at the bright side, if you hadn’t made those mistakes. You wouldn’t have learned the lessons it brought you afterward. It made you who you are. So forgive yourself and move forward.

B. Self-Compassion

An Entrepreneur’s journey is tough no doubt. And now just because you chose this path, it doesn’t mean you would punish yourself for the tough situations and the hard times ahead of you. Practice self-compassion more than ever before.

What would you say to your best friend if she was on the same journey? Would you criticize her all the time as you do to yourself?

You have your answer now. And here’s a 5-minute video to learn how to continue practicing the art of self-compassion for the future.

C. Gratitude

Appreciate the water your drink, the air you breathe, the food at your table, the people in your life, the color of the flowers, and even the sweet scents it brings along. The more grateful you are for the smallest of things in your life, the more abundant you will be. GRATITUDE ATTRACTS ABUNDANCE.

A thank you in your prayers as well as to others, will keep you happy from inside.

2. Discipline

Create routines. Like I said before, tasks that are performed repeatedly forms a habit. And a habit once formed takes less effort to be executed. Therefore, every female entrepreneur has a habit of creating routines and then practicing self-disciple to stick to it.

Here are a few things that you can do to practice self-disciple:

  • Find a mentor who would help you or a friend who would support you. Anyone who can push you past your comfort zone would be your best support system.
  • Find the ‘WHY’ behind your task. Why you want to do this. For a better life? Job? Salary? It could be anything. Your ‘why’ will be your motivation to go on during hard times.
  • Take baby steps every day.
  • Eat regularly and stay fit. You are more likely to perform better when you feel good about yourself.
  • Remove temptation. Don’t resist it. But remove it completely.
  • Take regular intervals to reward yourself.

3. Reading

Books are magical. Literally!! And entrepreneurs often tap into this magic by picking up good books to read.

Either grab a book from the genre related to your industry to broaden your knowledge base, or pick up self-help books on leadership and personality development to learn things and new skills.

If you make it a habit of reading something every day, it will not only enhance your vocabulary and make you a conversationalist but also help increase your imagination and creativity.

Not to mention, how many ideas travel in your head back and forth when you discover the joy of reading.

Reading every day is like mental fitness. It makes you more positive about your work and gives a different perspective on life.

Here’s the math behind reading. Even if just read 20-25 pages every day. After one year, you have read, about 7300-9125 pages. And that’s like 20-30 books a year. Now imagine the amount of impact it can bring to your life!

Also, reading before an hour to bed helps you reduce stress and depression and makes you sleep like a baby!

A win-win situation at all costs!

4. Setting Goals

Just like you don’t drive to a new location without turning the GPS on. Similarly, an entrepreneur wouldn’t chase his dreams without setting a realistic set by step goals.

One of the habits of female entrepreneurs is that they love to set S.M.A.R.T goals. And they love to personally write it down on paper.

For those of you who are thinking they can’t write. Please read this. Not every entrepreneur out there is a writer. But every entrepreneur out there has a planner or journal.

Goals that are written down in pen and paper and reviewed almost every day impact you and your life very differently.

Set S.M.A.R.T goals-

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time Based

Create an action plan, Write in down and Make it happen!

5. Self-education

Self-education breaks all of your limited belief systems and helps you adopt a growth mindset.

Ideas come naturally and effortlessly to you than you scratching your head finding them. That’s the reason why female entrepreneurs love to read and self-educate themselves.

Most of the self-made millionaires are the ones who acquired their wealth and status through self-education.

6. Never Stop Believing

When female entrepreneurs start to create healthy habits, they automatically start to form strong beliefs. The thing is, your thoughts create your reality.

When you think of an idea and have faith and belief that you can do it. Then eventually you do. YES, YOU DO!

But thoughts, actions and believe all go hand in hand. Thoughts alone, or belief alone are not enough to get you going. Rather create a belief system that you can do it, be positive that it’s possible and then back it up with intentional actions every day.

Now here what happens. When entrepreneurs start to create all of these healthy habits for success. They are intentionally taking action upon their idea with a belief that they can achieve whatever their heart desires.

And that is exactly why they are relentless even when failure knocks them down again and again. They bring success to themselves through their thoughts, believe and consistent intentional actions.

Read the autobiography of the successful people who inspires you or motivates you to be like them. And pay attention to how many times that person mentions her belief in herself and her idea throughout the pages of that book.

7. Creating a Vision Board

Now vision boards don’t have to be pretty boards with fancy pictures or Pinterest profiles with an insane amount of pins. Even written down goals in your journal could be your vision book.

When you can visually see your goals written down in a piece of paper every day. It starts to affect how we act. And you’re more likely to be productive if you can see what you have to do, instead of just thinking about it.

A dream board or vision board is a collage of pictures and affirmations of a person’s dreams and desires that are used as a visualization tool for them.

These boards are a source of inspiration and motivation for oneself. Creating vision boards or books is a creative process to set clear intentions and goals of what you want in your life.

Learn how to create empowering vision boards here.

8. Prioritizing

Ever looked at a female entrepreneur or a leader and wondered how the hell do they get so much done in so little time?

It’s simple. They have trained themselves to prioritize or delegate their task. If something isn’t urgent or important, they wouldn’t give it another minute of their life to even thinking about it.

They have got into the habit of following the 80/20 rule. The rule states that 80% of your success and results will be produced by 20% of your effort.

This means that it would be silly to focus your time equally among all of your tasks if only 20% of them will produce the vast majority of your success. And that is exactly why prioritization is important.

But how to even begin prioritizing your to-do list when everything seems important and urgent?

Use the Eisenhower Matrix discovered by Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States.

The Eisenhower principle helps you learn how to divide your to-do list into the 4 quadrants of urgency and importance. Which gives you a clear picture of prioritization and delegation of your task.

Learn how to create the Eisenhower Matrix here for your to-do list.

9. Celebrating Small Victories

“A person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected.”

Appreciating small victories along the journey could make a huge physiological difference in a female entrepreneur’s mind. That is exactly why they love to set realistic goals and write it all down. As you see the progress of your journey with all the small wins, the power of visualization gets better.

And you can easily maintain the confidence and motivation to carry on as you once started.

So think about what you enjoy the most and reward yourself with the same, whenever you achieve a small goal. Treat yourself with your favorite ice cream, coffee, or a trip somewhere.

Entrepreneurs and leaders love to celebrate themselves through small victories. And that is why the world learns to celebrate them.

10.  Wearing Failure Like a Badge Of Honor

“Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.”

— Oprah Winfrey

To err is human. Failures or mistakes can be a great opportunity to learn and to develop on a personal, as well as an organizational level. Therefore successful people often use this opportunity to change direction in life and, then move forward to grow and triumph again.

Entrepreneurs have the self-confidence to admit that they have failed and get to the root cause of the failure.

Analyzing one’s mistakes and failures can help re-frame the error and increase one’s chances of success all over again.

11. Networking

Networking is a great way to meet like-minded female entrepreneurs and build long-lasting connections with them. Sharing information, challenges, experience helps you gain a new perspective and key insights in your industry.

Also, by constant connections and getting to know new people, you’re intentionally stepping out of your comfort zone and building strong communication skills.

By learning how to communicate your ideas right, you are equipped to be an influential person for your team, business, and network.

These connections could be a great support system in the long run too because your network consists of other passionate female entrepreneurs like you.

And if you build your reputation as a reliable and supportive person by offering valuable information to the ones who need it. You are also more likely to get more leads and referrals because you will be the one that pops into their head when they need what you offer.

Having like-minded female founders around you to talk on all sorts of things related to your business or even personal life could result in naturally formed strong friendships. The friendship that could last a lifetime. Cause you just never know!
